About the day
World Salami Day falls on 7 September each year. It has no single organiser, but restaurants, charcuterie makers and food retailers in the UK, the US and New Zealand use it to promote salami.
Salami has a long history. Trade press coverage of the day points to the Museum of Salame in the cellars of Felino Castle near Parma, Italy, which displays an official document from 1436 that mentions salami.
It suits charcuterie and cured meat producers, delis, food retailers, Italian restaurants, cheese and wine businesses, and food media.
