About the day
The Prophet's Birthday, also known as Mawlid al-Nabi, marks the birth of the Prophet Muhammad. It falls on 12 Rabi al-Awwal in the Islamic calendar, so its Gregorian date changes each year.
In 2026 it fell on 25 August in the UAE. It was a public holiday in the UAE, Oman and Bahrain, and a holiday for government bodies in Kuwait. The UAE, Oman and Kuwait moved the day off to create a three-day weekend.
In 2027 the Prophet's Birthday is expected on 14 August in the UAE. The final date depends on the moon sighting and official announcements.
