About the day
The first National Coming Out Day was held on 11 October 1988, the anniversary of the 1987 National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights. Its founding organisation merged with the Human Rights Campaign in 1993, and HRC has run the day since, publishing coming out resources.
