About the day
Janmashtami is marked with fasting, devotional singing and midnight celebrations, since Krishna is said to have been born at midnight. Large UK gatherings take place at temples such as Bhaktivedanta Manor in Hertfordshire. Hindu festival dates follow the lunar calendar and can vary by a day between regions and communities.
