About the day

Gulf Cancer Awareness Week is held from 1 to 7 February each year in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. It is organised by the Gulf Federation for Cancer Control with national health bodies and cancer charities in each member state.

The week aims to spread knowledge about types of cancer, correct common misconceptions and encourage regular screening. The 2025 week was the 10th edition and ran under the slogan "Your Health in your Awareness", according to Qatar Cancer Society.

The Saudi Ministry of Health notes that cancer causes around 10 million deaths worldwide each year, and that about one third of cancer deaths are linked to preventable risks such as smoking, obesity and unhealthy lifestyles. Finding and treating cancer early greatly improves recovery rates.
