About the day
Emirati Women's Day is held every year on 28 August. The date marks the founding of the General Women's Union in 1975, and the day has been celebrated since 2015.
It is led by the General Women's Union under Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, known as the Mother of the Nation, and has an official theme each year. In 2026 the theme was "Together, We Rise Stronger and Better", and the celebration ran as a month-long national programme.
Government bodies, employers and brands across the UAE mark the day. It is not a public holiday.
