About the day
Families build ofrendas, altars decorated with marigolds, candles, food and photographs, to welcome the spirits of the dead for a brief return. The first day is traditionally for children and the second for adults. UNESCO recognises the festivity as intangible cultural heritage, and it is widely celebrated in the US.
