About the day
Dussehra marks Lord Rama's victory over Ravana and, in some traditions, Durga's victory over the demon Mahishasura. In India large effigies of Ravana are burned. It comes about twenty days before Diwali. Hindu festival dates follow the lunar calendar and can vary by a day between regions and communities.
