About the day

Small Business Saturday UK is a grassroots, non-commercial campaign that encourages people to shop with and support small businesses. The day itself falls on the first Saturday in December, which is 5 December in 2026.

The idea began in the United States in 2010 and was first held in the UK on 7 December 2013. The UK campaign is led by its director, Michelle Ovens CBE, and runs activity through the year, including the Nation's Favourite Businesses programme.

The campaign notes that there are around 5.7 million small businesses in the UK.
