About the day
National Girlfriend Day falls on 1 August each year. Its creators are unknown, but it is widely marked online in the US and the UK.
Some people use it to celebrate a partner and others to celebrate female friends. It comes two months before National Boyfriend Day on 3 October.
Its home online is girlfriendday.org, operated by Digital Alchemy FZ-LLC, with a UK edition at girlfriendday.co.uk. The site runs the Girlfriend Census, which gives couples a Spark Score, and a public vote for the Best Date Idea of 2027.
The day suits jewellery and beauty brands, florists, fashion retailers, restaurants and bars, dating apps and gift companies.
