About the day
Pain Awareness Month is held every September. The International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) says it was established in 2001 through a coalition led by the American Chronic Pain Association, and organisations around the world now take part.
In the US, the U.S. Pain Foundation leads a national campaign each September. Its 2026 campaign was called #OneVoiceForPain. IASP linked its 2026 activity to its Global Year on Neuropathic Pain.
The month suits healthcare providers, pharmacies, physiotherapy and rehabilitation services, health and wellbeing brands, employers and patient charities.
