About the day

World Tapas Day is held on 16 June. It promotes tapas culture and its role in Spanish tourism, with bars, restaurants and taverns offering special dishes, food and drink pairings and cookery demonstrations.

Turespaña, Spain's tourism institute, promotes the day abroad through its Spanish Tourism Offices. In 2016 the day ran in 29 countries with 437 restaurants taking part. Earlier editions used the third Thursday of June, but Turespaña now gives the fixed date of 16 June.

The day suits Spanish and Mediterranean restaurants, wine and food importers, travel companies, delis and grocery retailers, and drinks brands.
