About the day

Anzac Day was first commemorated in 1916 and honours Australians who have served in wars, conflicts and peace operations. Dawn services, which grew from the army's dawn stand-to routine, are held across the country, followed by marches. When 25 April falls on a weekend, some states add a Monday holiday.
