About the day
Bill C-5, which made 30 September a federal statutory holiday, received Royal Assent on 3 June 2021. The day shares its date with Orange Shirt Day, which began in Williams Lake, British Columbia, in 2013. Some provinces and territories, including British Columbia, Manitoba and Yukon, also recognise it as a holiday.
